EMERGING TRENDS IN DRUGS FROM NATURE ON 29th June 2022 BY Department of Biotechnology

Department of Biotechnology feels proud to share with you all that the ‘ TWO DAYS NATIONAL SEMINAR – EMERGING TRENDS IN DRUGS FROM NATURE ’ have been successfully organized by us on 28th and 29th June 2022.

Around 80 participants from Indira Gandhi College of Arts and Science, Sri Mankula Vinayagar College of Arts and Science, Vellore Institute of Technology, Annamalai University, and St. Joseph college of Arts and Science had graced the seminar with their diligent participation.

Day 1 of the seminar was inaugurated with the prayer song and lamp lighting ceremony. Dr. Arulkumar. A Head-Department of Biotechnology welcomed all the delegates and dignitaries through his inaugural address. The Chief Guest of the inaugural ceremony, Dr. Hannah Rachel Vasanthi, Professor and Head, Department of Biotechnology, Pondicherry University delivered the special lecture on ‘Bioactive leads of Marine origin for drug discovery. In continuation to that, the invited keynote speaker, Dr. P. Shanmugam, Senior Principal Scientist, CSIR-CLRI, Chennai addressed the august gathering through his lecture on ‘Significance of Organic Chemistry in Drug Discovery and Validation Process’. Distinguished speaker, Dr. R. Guru Raj Rao, Scientist, Biome Live Analytical Centre, Karaikudi, did an excellent presentation on ‘Advancements in Structural Biology Towards Drug Discovery’. The fourth session of the day got completed successfully with the yoga and well-being session called ‘Heartfulness Meditation’ covered by the guest Dr. Prahan Kumar, Associate Professor, Dept. of Community Medicine, Pondicherry Institute of Medical Science. The auditorium hall reverberated with positive energy at the end of the session.

Day 2 of the seminar got started with the special lecture on ‘Key findings of the Research Work in Drugs’ by the chief guest Dr. S.T. Somasundaram, BSR faculty fellow, Annamalai University. The second session got extended by the lecture of vibrant keynote speaker, Dr. Jayapragash, Scientist – B, Sathyabhama University Institute of Science and Technology, on the ‘Approaches of Omics in Marine Drug Discovery’. The final session of the seminar ended with the orientation session on ‘Intellectual property rights in drug discovery process’, given by Mr. Manoj Madhavan, Assistant controller of patent and design, Group A gazetted officer. Participants from other colleges actively presented their Posters and Oral presentations. Students of Biotechnology hosted the full event and also delivered the chief guest introduction in a pleasant manner.

Esteemed principal of Achariya Arts and Science College, Dr. S. Vimal Anand sir shared a special valedictory note with the august audience during the valedictory session and wholeheartedly accoladed the faculty members and students of the department of biotechnology. A pledge to save mother nature has also been taken by all the participants to display the importance of nature. The best presentations were awarded certificates and mementos during the valedictory function. Dr. Sivaranjani. G, Assistant Professor of the department of Biotechnology proposed the gratitude note and thanked all the audience for their presence. Feedback forms for all the lecture sessions were collected at the end of every session from every participant and delegate. Students of Biotechnology showcased their talents through different art forms to the delegates and dignitaries and entertained the crowd affirmatively. The two days national seminar ended with National Anthem.
