Department of English

The department of English had its inception in the year 2009 and widened its horizon by having a larger strength of students and faculty members. It is led by a team of vibrant and experienced faculty members who always value student centered teaching learning process and equipping them with deep literary knowledge and globally acceptable skills. The department has been the hub of teaching both literature and language by attracting heterogeneous group of students across the states.

The vision of the department is to impart a multicultural and multilingual dimension to the study of the English language and its literature and the mission of the department is to promote the study of worldwide literature written in English and extend the understanding of how the English Language is inextricably intertwined with the various cultures of those who speak and write it.

The department has a well spacious classroom and a state of the art language laboratory that creates a robust teaching-learning environment.

Being an intensely proactive department, the faculty members adopt the methodology of power teaching, peer learning, remedial classes, booster classes, and mentoring educational system to enhance the holistic development of the students. The department also provides professional value added courses – Journalism, CRM non- voice, Content writing, Business English Certificate, and Front office executive, under skill India to the demands of industrial needs and job opportunities in the competitive world.

Students are encouraged to enroll for courses offered under NTPEL and SWAYAM to earn additional certificates and to equip themselves with extra skills and knowledge. The students from the department have also bagged gold medals from the prestigious Pondicherry University.

The department also periodically organizes– workshops, Guest lectures, Inter and Intra collegiate literary events, Readathon, Poetember, visits to libraries of national repute, literary forum and industrial visits to provide space for students to get exposure and exhibit their inherent talents.

The literary club of the department provides a forum to the students of English to actively take part in extra and co-curricular activities of the college in order to develop their self-confidence and leadership qualities.

The department has its special feature of conducting Inter collegiate Literary Meet every year to create an opportunity to accelerate the hidden talent of the young minds and also to train them to be professionally successful, socially conscious and morally independent individuals.  The alumnae of the department have made their mark in diverse places such as Infosys, Wipro, Global Southernland and Accenture.

The department highly believes that the success of the students is constituted on the basis of a healthy and productive teacher-student relationship.
